Arm Accessories: Night Vision

Firing events limit the lifetime of any shock sensitive parts attached to the gun. Thus the weapon shot counter's capabilities can address maintenance issues with gun accessories. The most readily addressable customer need here is presented by night vision systems. These systems utilize image intensifier tubes, which consist of a series of parallel plates (cathode, microchannel plate, and screen) which are very sensitive to shock. A night vision tubes typically fail when the plates move and electrical shorts occur.

Since the night vision is not mounted continuously, it will require its own counter to keep track of its exposure to shock events. Additionally, the information about how many rounds from a clip have already been fired could be incorporated directly into the night vision display. The shot counter will give these users the capability to accurately predict when their night vision instrument approaches its end of life.
